The Eighth of Eight-Grand-God, Omotari-no-Mikoto

This will be the last story of Eight-Grand-God. It’s a generic name of eight guardian Gods named Tenrinou, literally surrounding gods of the heaven. Omotari-no-Mikoto is the last logic of thirteen Gods, whose mentor and savior is Ameno Minaka described by one and two, and whose creator is Great Grand God of the Heaven and the Parents (“Great God Two and One”).

In a word, it’s “Great God for warmth”. As it gives us body heat, we’re born as human beings with having warmth.

Also, as Great God of sun purification, it makes a pair with Kunitokotachi-no-Mikoto which is water purification. Unlike water, the sun purification has severity to purify by burn out, so we must prepare it is purification for asking us starting all over again.

Located south, this Great God shows feminine principle. It has tenderness of female characteristic, but sometimes has passion to burn by sun. It looks like snake, having 12 heads and 3 tales that become three swards, and creep around the earth and the sky. The 12 heads showed symbolically the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac, or managing 12 months.

This Great God creates Izanami, female origin. The reason why it still worshiped as a symbolism of Izanami is to exist like a snake. Air is this God’s vesture, and the earth wears the vesture and brings warmth to the ground. It nurtures all lives. This God also gives bloodstream that sustain human life and heat to it.

It hates grudging heart. This is why mothers don’t grudge for their children. Motherhood is selfless love, which express spirit of Omotari who brings up all lives.

I think it’s a Great God which embody motherhood principle, however, please do not forget the illness caused by grudging heart often has high fever and it climbs up-head. Specifically, measles, lung disease, high fever, headache, brain disease, and every sickness being treated at psychosomatic medicine such as nervous disease or neurosis are phenomenon after this God left.

As daily protection of this God is the strongest from noon to 2 a.m. during sun culmination, we pray this hour. Monthly, from midnight of 16th through noon of 18th, this God enters to protect, and stands from June 21 to July 20 annually.

Thought of immeasurable bliss and light by Bhikkhu who later called Amitabha, shows this God’s idea well. I mean, the entity giving lots of love and light is Omotari-no-Mikoto. Also, Goddess of Kannon is generally delivered by this God. Infinite existence spares no efforts trying to help creatures with motherhood principle is recognized as Goddess of Kannon, which still many people have a faith.

Omotari-no-Mikoto temporarily appears as mentioned above and developed Pure Land Buddhism. The basic is ungrudging love. It is important to cope with this love for your life.
